Meike 25mm f1.8 Nikon Z

This is my first manual lens on a mirrorless camera. I am very pleased with the quality of this lens and with the operation. It is very easy to use and the quality of the photos cannot be beaten for the price. Well done!!

Hard to beat for the price

I ordered this to have a fast prime for shooting some landscape without buying an expensive Nikon full-frame prime. The lens was shipped to me in a reasonable amount of time and I appreciate that the sales team reached out to make sure that I understood that it was an APS-C lens.

The first thing I did was compare the sharpness to the Z50 kit lens at a similar focal length and this prime is much sharper than the kit zoom from center to corners. So, I am satisfied with that aspect.

Getting good focus manually takes some learning. I do use focus peaking in the camera which helps quite a bit. I usually zoom in and check my photo before moving on as sometimes I still miss focus, but I am getting better. I shoot with other manual lenses and this one isn't a problem in that regard.

I found the aperture ring a little strange at first without click-points for various f-stops, but I have found that this doesn't bother me and I just put the aperture about where I want it.

I do get some noticeable vignette in the extreme corners which is mostly easy to deal with in Lightroom.

I really appreciate the size as it is a small, light-weight prime to go with the Z50 which I bought for its size and weight.

When mounting to the camera, the alignment dot is on the camera facing part of the flange rather than the outside of the lens which makes it a bit difficult to see and align, but you get used to it.

This is a really good lens for the money.

Stunning value

It was a pleasure putting this lens straight on to my Nikon Z50; there are few lenses available for the crop sensor used in that model from Nikon. It took almost no time to adjust to the fully manual operation. Just set the ISO, turn the aperture ring until the light matches reality with what’s in your viewfinder, set a desired shooting speed, readjust f stop if necessary, focus and shoot. Sharp pictures. Unbeatable value. I look forward to Meike filling in the gaps Nikon has left for prime mirrorless lenses.
